 The Mormons hide the dark side of Salt  Lake City from the world. This is the Mormon way. Polygamy is a practice that makes slaves of young girls who are married off to older men and there is no help for them from the LDS church.. Neither Joseph Smith nor Brigham Young cared about the long term effects this practice of polygamy would have on helpless girls and women.

The Work and The Glory, Mormon Taliban or American Zion?

Salt Lake City, that clean and modern community you saw before you on the television, or in person, when you watched the 2002 Olympic winter games, has another aspect you may not know of. The government of the state of Utah went all out to show this city in its best possible aspect. But there is another side to Salt Lake City, a very dark side indeed. Mere children are institutionally raped and enslaved, both mentally and physically, by their patriarchal masters. As is evidenced in the case of Tom Green, the institution is one of long-standing in this state; I, of course, mean polygamy. Elizabeth Smart is now one of the latest victims of this abomination of "an American Zion."

Though the outside world may have the impression that this is a quaint artifact of the early pioneer days, which springs up spontaneously here and there, nothing could be further from the daily reality its victims endure their entire lives. The reprehensible acts of pedophiles posing as "priests" in the Catholic Church pale when compared to what these children, then women, endure. Young men accosted by pedophile "priests" can eventually leave the situation. These girls become pregnant and are condemned to live in servitude. Their tormentor becomes the father of their children, they have no choice but to accept their fate and pass it along to their offspring!

Polygamy started as a closed society; the first polygamist marriage performed - that was completely dated and recorded - occurred on June 14, 1842. Original founder and "prophet" Joseph Smith united Brigham Young and Lucy Decker Seeley. Brigham Young was already the husband of Mary Ann Angell Young, a relative of mine. Mary Ann Angell was his second wife, the first having died leaving him with two young children to care for.

The facts about the secret practice of polygamy soon began to be known, through rumor, by the members of towns and villages around the Mormon city of Nauvoo, Illinois and the inhabitants became enraged. Then later that same year, on August 8, Joseph Smith was arrested and cited as an accessory in the attempted murder of Lilbern W. Boggs, the former Governor of Missouri.

This early spirit of rebellion and deception was difficult enough for the people of Illinois to handle, coupled with an omnipotent leader who could simply have a revelation and whatever situation he wanted his people to create, was instantly done, well, trouble was imminent. And thus, the institution of multiple, simultaneous, marriages was born. In the beginning the practice was equitable, it went both ways. Joseph Smith married numerous women who were already married; nine of his first twelve wives were the wives of other men and they remained so during Smith's lifetime. The Mormon Church denies this but it is history written in a thousand diaries and church records by their own faithful. Brigham Young, - Smith's successor - put an end to the practice of polygamy being an  equal opportunity doctrine. So, as is the case with other nomadic peoples in other parts of the world today, the Mormon pioneer men began their migration to the Great Basin in 1847, as men with harems.

It was a seedy situation right off but it was pretty much amongst consenting adults; it isn't any more. It is now quite common in these closed communities, estimated at more than 30,000 people, for female children, as young as twelve and thirteen, to be given away by arranged marriage. In the huge Kingston clan, they are most often wed to men of close biological relationship, and in most sects these men are often forty years or more their senior - men with multiple wives already in tow. Young girls who try to escape are commonly beaten and when successful have even been returned home by local authorities as runaways!

Where have the Utah State Department of Social Services people been? Where has state law enforcement been? The laws are on the books but enforcement has not been on the agenda! We are talking about the State of Utah and the Mormon Church, aiding and abetting the institutionalized rape of children and doing nothing to stop it! The only reason the infamous Tom Green was prosecuted was because he violated their "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. This was the first prosecution in over fifty years!

Only recently, in 1998, did the state finally raise the legal age of marriage from 14 to 16. Only in February 2000 was a measure passed by the Utah State Senate, finally, through the efforts of the very brave Utah (D) State Sen. Ron Allen, to finance some help for women and children trying to escape. He made the argument that polygamy crimes "go to the heart and soul of human rights." He said, "Certainly it is to our advantage to deal with these issues we have put off so long before the Olympics." He was not reelected yet, bless him, he made his point, that these "dirty little crimes" don't seem so little when viewed through the eyes of the world. It is clear that the State of Utah and these girls were involved in an abusive relationship.

If only the laws against pedophilia had been enforced all these years, this wouldn't still be going on. There aren't more girls born than boys. The only way this horror can perpetuate itself is if these very young girls can be burdened with children so they can't leave. If these girls were left to mature, too many would leave and there wouldn't be enough stay to perpetuate this evil. The raping of children in the name of Jesus Christ has got to stop. So how are the polygamists different than the Taliban? They're not.

Let's keep the pressure on. That's what this site is here for. Please help us.

My Answer

The LDS church let this go on from the beginning (I'll ad now that they were the law for generations) and have until very recently done nothing - read the main page again. Mormon politicians wouldn't touch it because they still recognized these people as fellow mormons living the "true" doctrine and protected them, the men not the young girls.

A mormon man still rules over his wife and he is still taught that he will have multiple wives in heaven! Mormons also believe that mankind has a father and mothers in heaven but don't believe that the mothers in heaven need be prayed to - ever. They believe that the world is being continuously populated by their god through sexual intercourse with these wives. This is stated in early speeches given by Brigham Young.

The peel may be pretty but the core is still rotten.

I would like to state here that, though my ancestor is mormon, I am not nor have I ever been. I have had to put up with their bigotry, lies and egotism my whole life. As a child I watched their cruelty towards the Native American people. They brainwashed and made slaves of them. I saw how they taught them they were an inferior race and shamed them over their history which was a mormon concoction all along. Genetics prove who the Native Americans are and they have more to be proud of than any mormon ever born.
